Post the Central Railways proposal of the Matheran toy train for the 2021 version of the UNESCO-Greece Melina Mercury International Prize this year, the association has accepted the application. The railways are thus curating a presentation to display the cultural legacy, reported the Indian Express.

According to the report, Central Railway’s official stated that the railways had made the application for the Matheran Light Railway as a nomination for the 2021 version of the UNESCO-Greece Melina Mercury international prize. Since the application has been accepted, a final presentation needs to be made which the railways are now undertaking to highlight the cultural milieu of Matheran.

The UNESCO-Greece Melina Mercouri International Prize for Safeguarding and Management of Cultural Landscapes was made in 1995. It is a recognition for impeccable instances of actions to protect and ameliorate the world’s cultural scenes, a classification of World Heritage.

Those that can make an application for the prize includes individuals, site managers, institutions, other entities, communities or non-governmental organisations. They need to have made a considerable offering in safeguarding, managing and developing the world’s prominent cultural prospects.

Based on the account, the presentation of the railways will include pictures of cultural happenings, traditions, wildlife, flora and fauna in Matheran while complimenting it with how the rail helps the locals.

This toy train is a prominent attraction in Matheran.
