The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to install around 719 CCTV cameras at 24 divisional offices of the civic body for security purposes. The BMC has estimated the cost of this contract INR 7.62 crores. According to reports, the project will be given to M/s Samarth Security Systems Pvt. Ltd. The proposal in this regard will come up for approval in the next meeting of the Standing Committee.

The Municipal Corporation has tightened the security of CCTV cameras at its headquarters at CSMT. Once the proposal will be approved by the contractor and the work order is fixed, the installation of CCTV cameras and implementation will take place within the next six months of approval.

Earlier, it was reported that many CCTV cameras at the headquarters of the BMC have been shut down due to technical reasons and this has raised threats to the security of the headquarters. As per reports, the CCTV cameras have not been functional due to a previous annual maintenance agreement.

Addressing the issue, BMC had placed an order of 84 new CCTV cameras in the building, and the proposal to install a new CCTV was submitted to the Standing Committee for approval in November. It is said that the corporation will spend INR 77 lakh for this.
