The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has taken a significant step towards positioning itself as a global hub for artificial intelligence and innovation with a new strategic partnership announced during Mumbai Tech Week 2026.
In the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai (TEAM). The agreement was formalised with TEAM co-founders Akrit Vaish and Harsh Jain in attendance.
The collaboration brings together a statutory planning and infrastructure development authority and a network of 85 successful tech entrepreneurs, aiming to develop a world-class ecosystem for startups, innovation, and AI-driven growth across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Under the partnership, initiatives will be undertaken to support emerging industries and technology ecosystems, including AI job fairs, global capability centres, hackathons, investor connect programs, and the adoption of global best practices. The initiative is also expected to strengthen key projects such as Maharashtra Innovation City and Mumbai 3.0.
Officials said the joint effort will focus on sectors including artificial intelligence, mobility technology, fintech, urban analytics, and smart city development, with the broader goal of transforming the Mumbai Metropolitan Region into a leading global destination for innovation, investment, and technology-driven development.
