Fuel Prices: Mumbai's petrol cost remains highest across metro cities despite cut down

The price hike during this period pushed petrol prices above INR 100-a-litre-mark in more than half of the country while diesel crossed that mark in at least three states.

After remaining unchanged for nearly a week, fuel prices have been reduced on the first day of September by 13-15 paise across metro cities.

Petrol prices have dropped by 10 to 15 paise across the country on September 1. Meanwhile, the diesel price decreased by 14 to 15 paise on the first day of the month.

In India's financial capital Mumbai, petrol is being sold at INR 107.39 per litre, which is 13 paise down from yesterday, August 31. Whereas, diesel is being sold at INR 96.33 per litre, which is 15 paise down from yesterday’s price.

Besides, it has come to light that Mumbai’s petrol cost is still the highest across metro cities.

According to reports, petrol is now retailing at INR 101.34 in Delhi, while diesel at INR 88.77. 

In Kolkata, petrol prices stand at INR 101.72 per litre and diesel prices at INR 91.84 per litre in the city. In Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai, petrol price stands at INR 99.08 per litre and diesel prices at INR 93.38 per litre.

Petrol and diesel price was last hiked on July 17. Prior to that, the petrol price was increased by INR 11.44 a litre between May 4 and July 17. Moreover, the price hike during this period pushed petrol prices above INR 100-a-litre-mark in more than half of the country while diesel crossed that mark in at least three states.
