A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured after a portion of a parapet wall on the terrace of a seven-storey MHADA building collapsed in Govandi on Sunday evening. The incident occurred at around 6.54 pm at Building No. 8B in the MHADA colony at Natwar Parekh Compound in the Shivajinagar area of Govandi.
According to officials, a portion of the parapet wall had become dilapidated and suddenly collapsed onto the road below. The debris fell on the girl, identified as Kajal Jaiswal, while she was passing by the building.
She suffered serious injuries in the incident and was rushed to Sion Hospital in a private vehicle before fire brigade personnel reached the spot. Doctors said her condition was critical and she remained under treatment.
Fire brigade personnel later reached the site and removed the remaining dangerous portion of the parapet using bamboo and other equipment. The area around the building was subsequently cordoned off as a precautionary measure.
