Continuous rainfall across the catchment areas has significantly boosted water levels in the reservoirs supplying Mumbai, with the Bhatsa dam recording strong inflows.
According to civic officials, the combined water stock in Mumbai's seven lakes has risen to over 87% of their total storage capacity, providing a major relief ahead of the remaining monsoon season. Bhatsa, the city's largest source of drinking water, has contributed substantially to the increase following heavy rainfall in its catchment.
The sharp rise in reservoir levels has eased concerns over the city's water supply, which had been under pressure before the onset of the monsoon. Officials said continued rainfall in the catchment regions is expected to further improve storage levels in the coming weeks.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is monitoring daily inflows and reservoir levels to ensure adequate water availability throughout the year. With reservoir storage now exceeding 87% capacity, the city's water situation has improved considerably, although authorities will continue to closely track monsoon rainfall for the remainder of the season.
