Mumbai: BMC to Issue Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates Within 3 Days

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has introduced a faster process for issuing birth, death and marriage certificates, with certificates expected to be made available within three working days after registration.

Applications for birth and death registration and corrections are being accepted through the Birth and Death Registration portal at civic centres located in BMC administrative offices. The new system also allows citizens to request the addition of a child's name to a birth certificate and apply for corrections to existing records.

Under the revised process, marriage certificate corrections will also be completed within three working days. However, corrections to birth and death certificates will take up to 25 working days, depending on the nature of the request.

Citizens can apply for corrections involving parents' names, permanent or temporary addresses, date of birth, gender and other details on birth certificates. Applications for corrections to death certificates and conversion of old certificates into QR-code-based certificates are also being accepted. 

Old Certificates to Get QR-Code Upgrade

The BMC has set up a separate counter at civic centres to accept applications for converting old birth and death certificates into new QR-code-enabled certificates.

Track Applications Using Unique ID

Citizens will be able to track the status of their applications using a Unique ID mentioned on the acknowledgement receipt issued at the civic centre.

The BMC has also introduced online application facilities for certain birth and death certificate corrections. Information boards explaining the application procedures are being installed at civic centres to make the process easier for residents.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Prajakta Verma Lavangare has directed officials to increase public awareness about the services and ensure that citizens receive adequate information about the application process.

The move is aimed at simplifying access to vital civic documents and reducing the time residents have to spend obtaining or correcting certificates.
