City’s first synthetic track for joggers and runners has been laid at the APJ Abdul Kalam Recreation Garden at Hari Om Nagar in Mulund East.

Mumbai’s civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) developed the 600m long synthetic track in a new garden spread over 15,000sq.m. Besides the sitting area, the recreation space also includes amenities such as sound system and a walkway basketball court, play area for children, and cricket pitches.

Talking about the same, a civic official said the track has been developed with an aim to provide a smooth movement, and hence the construction includes proper facilities for senior citizens, and sports enthusiasts. Besides the above-mentioned amenities, officials have also ensured the use of horticulture and greenery by creating a tree canopy on the walkway.

Developed at a budget of over ₹7 crore, the park is made on a plot reserved for a recreation ground in the Development Plan, and officials from BMC took almost a year to develop the same and it was completed in February.
