BMC Mayor, Kishori Pednekar’s elder brother Sunil Kadam, passed away due to the coronavirus on Saturday, August 1. Pednekar took to Twitter to share the news and also wrote a poem for him.



According to sources, the 59-year-old was undergoing treatment at the Nair hospital where he succumbed to the disease around 8:30 in the morning. Pednekar had earlier quarantined herself after coming in contact with journalists infected with the COVID-19. In the month of April, as a former nurse herself, Pednekar donned the hat of a nurse to support the healthcare workers amidst the coronavirus crisis.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has reported 9,601 fresh cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the tally of confirmed cases to 4,31,719, as per the state health department.

However, 10,725 patients were discharged after recovery in the same period, taking the number of recovered cases to 2,66,883. The recovery rate in Maharashtra is now 61.82 per cent, as against the nation's 64.53 per cent.

On Wednesday, the government extending its current lockdown till August 31, issued guidelines for the 'Mission Begin Again'. Under the new guidelines, apart from the current relaxations, malls and market complexes have been permitted to resume operations from August 5 without theatres, food courts, and restaurants being operational.
