Recently, to assess the prevalence of COVID-19, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) conducted a Sero-Survey in three different wards of Mumbai. It has come to light that women are a little ahead than men in defeating the deadly virus. The survey has reportedly found that women have higher levels of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) than men.

The Sero-Survey has revealed that women in Mumbai have developed a better 'herd immunity' in comparison to men. According to the survey, men are also more likely to get infected with the virus in the city. While about a total of 2,397 or 59.3 per cent of women were found to have developed antibodies against COVID-19, only 1,937, or 53.2 per cent of men were found to have developed  the same.

In many countries, the antibody levels have been found to be similar in both men and women. However, Mumbai has reported lesser female patients than male patients until now. While about 45 per cent of the infected cases in the city are women, about 55 per cent of the infected cases are men. In particular, the proportion of antibodies is highest among women in slum areas.

Meanwhile, Mumbai has recorded 1,223 fresh coronavirus patients on Thursday, taking the total tally of the city to 1,13,187 cases. According to the data provided by the BMC, Mumbai reported 53 new deaths, which has taken the fatality toll up to 6,297.
