MMRDA is working on the 15.31 km metro line connecting the eastern and western suburbs. MMRDA aims to put this line into service by 2025, comprising 13 metro stations and costing INR 6,672 crore. Meanwhile, the car shed of Metro 6 has been proposed on a 15 hectare site at Kanjurmarg and this site was given the green light by the state government in 2016. But during the Mahavikas Aghadi government, the car shed of Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) was shifted from Aarey Colony to Kanjurmarg. After that, a big controversy arose over this place.

The dispute went straight to the court and the car shed of Metro 6 was also stalled in the dispute. But now, the issue of car shed space in Metro 6 route has been resolved. The 15 hectare land for car shed was handed over to MMRDA by the state government a few months ago and the way for the work of the car shed of Metro 6 was cleared.

It was thought that tenders for the work would be floated immediately after taking possession of the Kanjur Marg site. However, even after five months have passed, the tender has not been issued. But now it is likely that the tender will be issued soon.

MMRDA has recently issued a tender to appoint a consultant for the work of the Kanjurmarg carshed. A senior officer of MMRDA informed that tenders will be floated for the construction of the car shed in 15 days. The construction of the car shed is likely to start in the new year after completing the tender process.
