On Monday, June 13, Maharashtra registered 1,885 new COVID-19 cases from which 1,118 were seen in Mumbai in addition to reporting one death. With these numbers, Maharashtra's coronavirus numbers surged to 7,912,462 while the death toll stood at 1,47,871, highlighted the health department in its bulletin.

According to reports, Mumbai also registered the first cases of three patients with BA.4 and one patient of the BA.5 sub-variants of the Omicron strain. It has been reported that all these cases were between May 14 and 24 all of whom have recovered in home isolation.

Due to these figures, the state now has 13 confirmed cases of these variants. However, while their prevalence is increasing globally, they have not been attributed to hospitalizations or severe diseases as of now.

Based on accounts, two of the patients were 11-year-old girls while two were males between 40-60 years of age. Narratives suggest that Mumbai city and suburbs are amongst the 12 districts in India that have the highest growth in new COVID-19 cases as well as a weekly positivity rate.

On the other hand, 774 patients recovered from COVID-19 in Maharashtra which took the aggregate number of recoveries to 77,47,111. In the day, the state conducted 24,436 tests which took the total number of samples tested so far to 8,13,46,204.

Similarly, India reported 6,594 COVID-19 cases, with which the active cases rose to 50,548. However, the daily positivity has been reduced to 2.05 per cent.

Earlier on May 28, Maharashtra's Pune had reported cases of the BA.4 and BA.5 variants of COVID-19.
