Mumbai Police have arrested two RTO agents, Jaiprakash Gupta and Pradeep Gupta, for a fraud scheme involving Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs). The scam was directed at autorickshaw drivers from Bhayandar, Mira Road, and Mumbra. They took advantage of their urgent need for PCCs to obtain essential transport badges, driving licences, and rickshaw badges.

The scam demanded INR 10,000 from auto drivers in exchange for providing them with clean PCCs. These certificates were a prerequisite for obtaining the necessary licences and badges for their profession. Auto drivers sought assistance in obtaining PCCs using forged documents to present a clean background.

The investigation began after Manoj Khandare, a Santa Cruz (East) resident, reported receiving 11 police verification letters between May 10 and July 1. Following this, local police, along with the Mumbai special branch, launched a thorough probe into the matter. Authorities have charged the two agents and also 11 autorickshaw drivers with deceit, forgery, and common intention under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
