BEST Kamgar Sena has appealed for help from CM Devendra Fadnavis after refusal from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration. The Kamgar Sena wants the CM to hold a joint meeting with the BEST general manager, municipal commissioner to save BEST from losses.
The office bearers of BEST Kamgar Sena met BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani last week to demand a solution to the plight of BEST due to the increasing deficit of the transport department in the BEST initiative, the decreasing number of buses, and the increasing number of accidents. At this time, the office-bearers made demands such as stopping the privatisation of BEST, stopping the leased bus services in BEST immediately and increasing the fleet owned by BEST. However, the BMC commissioner did not give any assurance to the officials.
Due to the terrible accident of BEST bus in Kurla, the mismanagement of BEST's transport department has come to the fore. Right now, politics has heated up over this issue. Last week, BJP representatives met General Manager Anil Diggikar and demanded an inquiry into the matter. On Monday, December 16, office bearers of Shiv Sena (Thackeray) Pranit Kamgar Sena met Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and demanded that the leased buses should be stopped.
Also demanded to increase BEST's own fleet. On this occasion, BEST Kamgar Sena President Suhas Samant, former BEST committee president and former corporator Anil Kokiel were present. The municipal commissioner held a discussion with the delegation of the labor force. But Anil Kokiel said while talking to the media that the commissioner refused to take responsibility for BEST. Therefore, after coming out of the Commissioner's hall, the office-bearers of the Workers' Sena protested against the Commissioner. The agreement to purchase cars on lease from BEST was signed by the then Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi. Kokiel also informed that the commissioner said that it is not legal.
