Two runners died while running in the Mumbai Marathon while 22 runners had to be hospitalised. The deceased runners have been identified as Suvradeep Banerjee (40) and Rajendra Bora (74). Suddenly he collapsed while running. He was immediately admitted to the hospital. But he died.


Suvradeep Banerjee (40) from Kolkata, who participated in the full marathon of the Mumbai Marathon, collapsed near Haji Ali Junction while running. Police immediately shifted him to Nair Hospital. But he died before being taken to the hospital. Banerjee suffered a contusion on the left side of his forehead after collapsing while running and bleeding, as well as a blow to his left knee.

Banerjee's death was reported at 8:30 am by Nair Hospital. Also, Rajendra Bora (74) was found collapsed in Nariman Point area. He was treated by doctors from the Asian Heart Institute, the medical partner of the Mumbai Marathon. Tried to give him CPR. But as he was not responding, he was immediately shifted to Bombay Hospital. But the director of critical care of Asian Heart Institute informed me that he did not respond to the treatment, Vijay D'Silva said.


58,900 runners participated in the Mumbai Marathon. Of these participating runners, 1,820 experienced a variety of medical issues including leg cramps, sprains, dehydration, fatigue and minor injuries. 22 of these runners were admitted to the hospital. 14 patients at Bombay Hospital, 4 in Jaslok Hospital,2 in Lilavati Hospital, 1 in Bhabha Hospital and one in Nair Hospital one patient were admitted.
