
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that a preliminary test of the census will be conducted in the M West administrative division (Chembur) of Mumbai in the coming month, i.e. from 10 to 30 November 2025.
The initiative is part of the preparations to make the census process more effective and accurate across the country. The last census was conducted in 2011.
According to the Census Directorate, the test will cover all the important aspects of House Listing and Housing Enumeration.
Residents will also have the opportunity to submit their information online through the self-enumeration facility. This facility will be available from 1 to 7 November 2025. Officials have appealed to citizens to cooperate with the enumerators and supervisors who will be visiting their homes.

In Mumbai, 135 house registration blocks in M West Ward have been identified for this initiative. A team of 402 enumerators and supervisors will be working for this survey across the state.
On Tuesday, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani met Census Directorate Director Dr. Nirupama J. Dange and reviewed the preparations for this initiative. Additional Commissioner of Western Suburbs Dr. Vipin Sharma was also present in this meeting.

Both the phases will be conducted under the Census Act, 1948. Officials said that the cooperation of citizens is essential for the success of this pre-test exercise.
Residents of the selected areas should provide accurate information to the enumerators so that the next population census of the country can be conducted smoothly.
