At least 536 persons tested positive for coronavirus, while 15 died of the infection in Maharashtra's Nagpur district on Thursday, December 3, an official said. With this, Nagpur accounted for more than half of the new COVID-19 cases reported in Vidarbha on the same day.
However, this was the second 500+ spike in the cases reported in three days of December in Nagpur.
According to reports by the health ministry, the latest cases have taken the district's COVID-19 count to 1,13,269 and the toll reached 3,707, the official said. Of the casualties reported so far, 2,550 were from Nagpur city, while 1,157 were from rural areas and outside the district.
Vidarbha’s COVID-19 death toll has reached to 6,110 after witnessing 23 deaths in a day on December 3. Meanwhile, Nagpur accounted for 15 out of those 23 deaths reported on the same day. However, of the 15 deaths, seven are from Nagpur city which is worrisome for the authorities.

The fatality rate of Vidarbha continued to be at 2.7 per cent, which is higher than state’s average of 2.6 per cent and national average of 1.5 per cent. Whereas, in all, 2,12,034 have recovered by now, pegging the region’s recovery rate at 92 per cent.
As on December 3, Maharashtra recorded 5182 new cases and 115 new COVID-19 deaths.
