
In a major step towards strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, several advanced medical facilities including an MRI Centre, Cath Labs, Dialysis Centres, a Veterinary Hospital, and other healthcare services were inaugurated in Navi Mumbai on Monday.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Vashi Public Hospital, Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik emphasised the importance of ensuring high-quality healthcare services for citizens. He stated that the newly launched medical facilities would play a crucial role in improving healthcare access and should be made available to Navi Mumbai residents on a priority basis.
The event was attended by Mayor Sujata Patil, Belapur MLA Manda Mhatre, Deputy Mayor Dasharath Bhagat, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, Standing Committee Chairman Ashok Patil, House Leader Sagar Naik, Health Committee Chairman Dr. Jayaji Nath, and several other elected representatives and senior civic officials.
Among the key facilities inaugurated at Vashi Public Hospital were an MRI Centre, a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), a Hospital Bed Availability Dashboard, a Milk Bank, and a Modular Mortuary. Foundation stones were also laid for Cardiac Care Centres (Cath Labs) at Vashi and Airoli.
Additionally, the inauguration of a Dialysis Centre at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan in CBD Belapur and a Veterinary Hospital at Juinagar was conducted online. A separate dialysis centre at Swami Vivekanand Bhavan, Vashi, developed through Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and MLA Local Area Development funds, was also inaugurated. The minister further inaugurated a new Urban Primary Health Centre at Mahape.
The demand and follow-up for the establishment of the Milk Bank facility had been actively pursued by MLA Manda Mhatre.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Sujata Patil highlighted that alongside infrastructure development, healthcare services must be delivered with dedication and compassion. She praised the efforts of NMMC’s health department and reiterated the civic body's commitment to providing quality healthcare facilities to residents.
Patil also noted that the newly launched Hospital Bed Availability Dashboard would help citizens quickly access information about available beds in private hospitals, reducing difficulties faced during medical emergencies.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde stated that while infectious diseases were once the primary health concern, lifestyle-related diseases are now on the rise. He informed that comprehensive health screenings are being conducted under the Ayushman Bharat initiative and that the civic body is implementing programs to address increasing obesity and related health issues.
He also pointed out the growing population of pets in Navi Mumbai and said that the newly operational veterinary hospital would provide dedicated treatment facilities for animals. Dr. Shinde further added that the upcoming Cath Labs would facilitate advanced treatment not only for heart ailments but also for certain brain-related conditions.
