Navi Mumbai: Instructions for evacuating hazardous buildings in wake of plaster collapse of slabs

Even before the rainy season, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation announced a list of dangerous buildings, in which notices were issued for demolishing the dangerous buildings in the C1 category. One such society is Swagat CHS at Sector 24, Nerul, that is owned by Cidco,where a slab of plaster collapsed in Block No. 5 in A-3 Building Ground Floor. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident as no one was under the slab when the incident took place.


As directed by Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Narvekar, Additional Commissioner Sujata Dhole along with City Engineer Sanjay Desai and Deputy Commissioner of Disaster Management Department Dr. Babasaheb Rajle immediately visited the incident site and inspected the situation and directed the citizens to evacuate immediately considering the danger.

Despite receiving the evacuation notice and cutting off the water supply, the citizens did not migrate due to the rainy season. However, keeping this incident in mind, instructions have been given to the residents to immediately make alternative arrangements and relocate.


The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has published the list of dangerous buildings before the monsoon season and it has appealed to the citizens to stop the habitation/use of dangerous buildings/houses immediately. However, it has been informed through the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation that citizens should consider the seriousness of this and make alternative accommodation arrangements.
