Navi Mumbai Police has decided to start women help desks in every police station under its jurisdiction to redress the complaints of women.

The Commissioner of Police said that this will help in solving their problems along with creating a sense of security among the women.

A letter sent by Navi Mumbai's administrative department informed them that plans are underway to set up a women's help desk at each police station in Zone I and II. "However, the plan is still at an initial stage and will take some time to take shape," said a senior police officer.

According to Navi Mumbai Police, for the safety of women, a special patrolling team by women police officers was started by Navi Mumbai Police in both the zones long ago. Along with this, women police officers were appointed for patrolling, and they visit different areas like other patrolling parties and the complaints raised with the control room are resolved immediately.

Earlier, former corporator of Nerul Saroj Rohidas Patil met Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe and raised some issues related to women. Hesitancy among women to approach the police was one of them. Saroj Rohidas Patil said that women often hesitate to go to the police station as they are not comfortable discussing issues with male policemen. "If there is a separate women's help desk in the police station, women will visit the police station and discuss their issues," Patil said.

Besides this, Patil also raised concerns about the safety of women in crowded areas and sought presence of women police personnel.
