Authorities in Navi Mumbai arrested 65 auto-rickshaw drivers and motorists during a special enforcement drive on Friday, April 24. The campaign was led by Tirupati Kakde to reduce traffic violations and improve commuter safety.

The operation took place between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm as a surprise inspection. Many drivers were seen rushing to follow rules after noticing the checks. Officials targeted several violations under the Motor Vehicles Act. These included wrong parking, refusal to accept fares, and ignoring basic traffic rules.

During the drive, authorities found two auto-rickshaws without valid fitness certificates. Both vehicles were immediately seized. Senior officers supervised the operation. Traffic police teams worked together with officials from the Regional Transport Office. Teams were placed at key locations to monitor traffic and catch violators.

As per a report by Mid-day, the action is part of a larger effort to improve traffic discipline and traffic flow in Navi Mumbai. Strict action will continue against those who break the rules. Officials added that similar drives will be conducted regularly.

The drive was also carried out because there were repeated complaints from commuters. Many had reported issues such as rash driving, overcharging, and refusal of fares by some auto drivers. Authorities said such surprise checks will act as a warning and encourage better behaviour.
