Under Aapli Chikitsa medical scheme, Covid tests will now be conducted in municipal clinics and peripheral hospitals for which patients will now have to pay INR 50 for the test.

During the pandemic, the government provided funding for free testing, but with the end of the emergency, the special funding allocated has been cancelled. During the first three phases of the highly contagious COVID-19 pandemic, the BMC placed more emphasis on symptomatic individuals, high-risk contacts and those seeking voluntary testing.

At that time, patients only had to pay INR 10 for a case paper and Covid testing was free in municipal clinics, maternity homes, peripheral hospitals and tertiary care hospitals. However, now individuals will have to pay INR 50 under their medical diagnosis scheme for a covid test.

Speaking to Mid-Day, a doctor from the HBT clinic, on condition of anonymity, noted that Covid has now become like the common flu. Testing is recommended only for suspected patients, which can be done under Aapli Chikitsa for a nominal fee. In addition, any necessary pathology tests are also included in this amount.
