The price of Onion has reached a skyrocketing limit of Rs 80/kg in Mumbai. One of the major reasons for this sudden rise in prices has been attributed to crunch in onion supply. In certain parts of the country, the prices have risen as much as Rs 30-40 per kg. Thanks to the less than adequate supply have pushed the price of wholesale onion prices to a four-year high.

According to reports, onion prices were touching Rs 75-80 per kg in Mumbai and Delhi in retail markets on Tuesday morning. Other parts of the country, are also feeling the pinch in their household expenses as the price of kitchen stable continues to rise. The onion prices in Bengaluru, Chennai and Dehradun touched Rs 60 per kg, while in Hyderabad, it is retailing between Rs 41-46 per kg.

The more than adequate monsoon has had an adverse impact on crops and that in turn has caused a sudden spike in onion prices. It is expected that the prices will continue to rise in the next few days and might even touch the price point of Rs 100/ kg in the next few days. It is being said that the impact is continued to last for about a month.

This is a double whammy for consumers as even the prices of petrol and diesel continue to spiral up and there seems to be no relief in sight.
