On Monday, November 1, the online application process for Haj 2022 at Haj House in South Mumbai has begun. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, has announced important reforms and enhanced facilities for the pilgrimage, reported the PTI.

He said the Haj process would be online, and the last date to apply for Haj 2022 is January 31, 2022. They can also use the Haj mobile app and apply online. This year the Indian Haj pilgrims will be promoting 'vocal for local.'

Usually, the Haj pilgrims buy items in Saudi Arabia in foreign currency. However, this time most of these goods will be purchased in India in Indian currency. These goods will be available at almost 50 percent lower prices compared to their cost in Saudi Arabia.

He further said that the selection process of the Haj pilgrims would be done as per the COVID-19 protocols. The embarkation points for this time have been reduced from 21 to 10, which also includes Mumbai amongst others.

Over 3000 women had applied under the "without Mehram" (male companion) category for Haj 2020 and 2021. He said that their applications will be eligible for Haj 2022, while other women can also apply for Haj 2022 under the same category.
