The railways advised closing the Lower Parel Bridge, once known as Delisle bridge, on Tuesday after an inspection by the city civic body and the railways. The bridge was found to have rusted iron-cast pillars, unfit for vehicles to run over it.

Pedestrians who are daily users of the bridge were inconvenienced due to shutting down of the bridge. One could see people queuing on the adjacent road of the station. Taking into note the discomfort felt to the commoners, the administration has arranged for traffic diversion options until the bridge is repaired.

Mahadev Palav bridge, the one connected to Delisle Bridge leading to Curry Road railway station towards the Lalbaug direction as well as N.M.Joshi bridge leading towards Chinchpokli will be functional as diversion routes.

The road along High Street Phoenix and the Kamala Mills Compound is open for vehicular traffic. The route from Prabhadevi railway station to Ganpatrao Kadam road and Worli Naka road will also be open.

A new route will be open going through the vegetable market under Lower Parel Bridge. If you’re headed to Lower Parel railway station via Currey Road, you can take a new diversion route that has been started on the left side of N.M Joshi bridge.
