The work of installing a noise barrier on the bullet train corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is going on. As of now, over 1,75,000 noise barriers have been installed in an area of 87.5 km in Gujarat.

For a stretch of 1 km, 2000 number of noise barriers are installed on either side of the viaduct. Three precast factories for this modular element have been established in Surat, Anand, and Ahmedabad for the manufacturing of noise barriers.

These noise barriers will be installed to reduce the noise generated by the train during operation. These noise barriers are concrete panels 2 meters high and 1 meter wide above rail level. Each noise barrier weighs around 830-840 kg. They will reflect and distribute the sound generated by the train. This noise is generated by the lower part of the train i.e. mainly the wheels running on the tracks.

They are designed in such a way that they do not disturb the journey of the passengers who are enjoying the train journey. While the barriers will be 2 metres high in most areas, they will be taller, at 3 metres, in densely populated and residential zones. In these areas, an additional 1-metre polycarbonate barrier will be used. This translucent material helps reduce noise without obstructing the view.
