According to a latest development, the Shiv Sena-led BMC’s improvements committee received over 300 suggestions/objections on the proposed modification to the urban development department in Worli dairy.

Last week, the civic body tabled the proposal to turn the Worli dairy into a marine research institute, aquarium, exhibition centre and a part of it into government offices.

For those unversed, the dairy land project was announced by the state’s finance minister in his budget speech in March 2020, just before the lockdown owing to coronavirus-led pandemic began.

As per reports, it has come to light that mainly objections were received related to issues like workers’ employment, building safety and inflation in the rates of milk.

The proposal mentioned that the existing reservation of the plot in the Development Plan (DP) as a dairy will be deleted and the nature of reservation on part of the plot is proposed to be revised for new reservations to bring the new plan to fruition.

Meanwhile, the opposition corporators in the BMC have alleged that they were not allowed to speak on the proposal when it was tabled and it was cleared in a hurry. Moreover, since the meeting was held online, most corporators remained mute and were not allowed to raise their points.

Cabinet minister Aaditya Thackeray is an MLA from Worli. This is considered to be his pet project.
