In a noteworthy shift in passenger preferences, more than 95 per cent of the Central Railway (CR) passengers between April and October 2023 chose general and sleeper classes. Meanwhile, nearly 4 per cent opted for AC coaches, according to railway officials.
This surge in the preference for general and sleeper classes marks a significant change in the dynamics of railway travel.

B) Massive Increase in General Second Class and Sleeper Class passengers on Central Railway Network
Data for April to October 2023 is as under:
·Total no. of passengers carried in Non AC coaches (General Second Class and Sleeper Class): 98.11 % of total no. of passengers carried
·Total no. of passengers carried in AC coaches: 1.88 % of total no. of passengers carried
·No. of passengers travelled in Non AC coaches (General & Sleeper Class) : 891.04 million ○ 94.4 million extra passengers travelled in Non AC (General & Sleeper Class) coaches compared to Last Year. Last year total no. of passengers travelled: 796.64 million (General & Sleeper)
·No. of passengers travelled in AC coaches: 17.15 million ○ 3.41 million extra passengers travelled in AC coaches compared to Last Year.
·Total no. of passengers increase: 97.8 million: in that 96.52% increase of Non AC passengers (General & Sleeper Class).
