With Dussehra, Vijayadashami along and and Gandhi Jayanti all falling on the same day on October 2, Mumbai city is gearing up for a grand celebrations. The city will witness large gatherings, cultural programmes,  immersion processions of goddess idols as part of the annual festivities.

To maintain law and order, Mumbai Police has deployed over 19,000 officers and personnel in the city.

To manage the large scale, the Mumbai Police Commissioner is directly supervising the arrangements under the supervision of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).

According to officials, those deployed include seven Additional Commissioners of Police, 26 Deputy Commissioners, 52 Assistant Commissioners, 2890 Police Officers and 16552 Constables, the report said.

In addition, special units like State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), Rapid Response Teams, Riot Control Teams, Delta Force, Combat Squads, Home Guards, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and Dog Squads have been deployed at sensitive locations to ensure security.

Meanwhile, this year, the ruling Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will hold its annual Dussehra rally at NESCO Centre in Goregaon. Whereas, the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray will hold its traditional rally at Shivaji Park in Dadar. Crowd management has become a top priority at the venue as lakhs of supporters are expected to attend.

Mumbai Traffic Police has made changes to the routes and diversions to avoid crowding and ensure safe processions.

Citizens are being urged to cooperate with security personnel, exercise caution at crowded places and immediately report any suspicious movement on police helplines 100 or 112.
