From Thursday, the cost of compressed natural gas (CNG) will rise by Rs 2.97/kg, comprising taxes, similarly, the price of piped cooking gas will increase by Rs 1.26/unit, reported the Times of India.

This is believed to be the second rise in a month for the two segments of fuel. In October the piped gas surged by Rs 3.53/unit and CNG rose by Rs 5.56/kg. According to the revised prices comprising all taxes of CNG in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will be Rs 57.54/kg, on the other hand, piped gas costs will increase to Rs 33.93/unit and Rs 39.53/unit for slab 1 and slab 2 respectively.

This will be the fourth surge for customers in Navi Mumbai, Vasai-Virar, Kalyan and Thane, this year. For CNG, the aggregate surge this year has been Rs 9.64/kg.

In February, the price of CNG has increased by Rs 1.50/kg whilst domestic PNG rose by 95 paise/unit. In July, the cost of CNG rose by Rs 2.58/kg, cooking gas rose by 55 paise/unit. In October, the surge for CNG was Rs 2.59/kg, cooking gas was Rs 2.27/unit.

The number of CNG vehicles have reached the eight lakh figure in Mumbai, thus the rising number of CNG motors has propelled MGL to make schemes to increase its CNG outlets to 372 from 272 in the arriving months, highlighted the account.
