A notable gathering was convened at the office of the Pune Divisional Commissioner to address and deliberate upon the forthcoming regulations for the highly anticipated Ganeshotsav and Dahi Handi celebrations, set to take place on Saturday.

Licenses Extended for Ganeshotsav Mandals

A Free Press Journal report mentioned that during the meeting, Gorhe, a significant member in the discussions, announced that the licenses granted to Ganeshotsav mandals during the previous year would retain their validity until 2026. This progressive decision alleviates the necessity for these mandals to submit fresh applications this year. However, those Ganeshotsav Mandals that had not previously secured permission are required to undergo a new application process. Citizens were encouraged to voice their suggestions and recommendations, with the assurance from the administration that each suggestion would be positively acknowledged and addressed.

Recognition of Dahi Handi

In a noteworthy development, the Dahi Handi festival was officially acknowledged as an adventure sport. This recognition prompted the formation of a dedicated committee tasked with arranging public awareness demonstrations akin to those held in Mumbai. The primary focus of these demonstrations is to highlight the importance of safety measures during the festival.

Emphasis on Law and Order

With the festivities around the corner, the police and district administration received clear directives to ensure the maintenance of law and order within the city. Particular emphasis was placed on effective traffic management, alongside comprehensive inspections of areas prone to congestion. This proactive approach is aimed at mitigating any potential traffic-related concerns during the celebrations. Citizens are assured that any alterations in traffic patterns will be duly communicated. Importantly, the directive stressed the importance of keeping both sides of the road accessible for devotees participating in Ganeshotsav and Dahi Handi events.

Extended Use of Loudspeakers and Facilities for Devotees

Responding to a recommendation from Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, it was established that during Ganeshotsav, the use of loudspeakers would be permissible until midnight on specific dates, including September 23 to 28. An extension of this permission would be granted on the day of Gauri immersion. Additionally, the Pune Municipality pledged its commitment to arrange necessary provisions, including food, for devotees visiting from outside the city.

Appeal for Cooperation

Gorhe concluded the meeting by earnestly appealing to citizens to diligently follow the administration's instructions and extend their cooperation throughout the festive period. Detailed insights into the ongoing preparations for the upcoming celebrations were shared by officials from various administrative bodies, including the Pune Municipal Commissioner and the Collector.

Key Attendees from Prominent Positions

The meeting witnessed the participation of prominent figures from various administrative and law enforcement positions. Notable attendees included Vikram Kumar, the Pune Municipal Commissioner; Ritesh Kumar, Pune City Police Commissioner; Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, the Collector; Ramesh Chavan, Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad; Praveen Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police; Sandeep Gill and R.
