The month of March has arrived which brings about the demand for mangoes in the fruit market across the city.

According to sources, the demand for mangoes has increased this year. In Mumbai, the demand usually witnesses an increase at the end of March, however, this year, the demand has already increased. Usually, 10-12 kilos of mangoes are sold per day in the month of March. This year, the demand surpasses 15 kilos.

Moreover, the prices in the wholesale market are INR 65-70 per kilo. In the market, it is being sold for INR 100-120 per kilo. In summer, Mumbai actually produces six to eight varieties of mangoes. This year, however, only brown mango, which is currently known as juice mango, has started making its way into the market. On the other hand, Hapus Mango is available at the market at INR 2,000 a dozen.

The arrival of mangoes is increasing day by day due to which the prices of mangoes have also gone up. However, traders have predicted that mangoes will be available to the general public in the next few days. In addition, earlier on March 14, a total of 443 vehicles, including 26 trucks and 417 lorries, had arrived at the fruit market. As per reports, 23,037 crates of mangoes have entered the market from Maharashtra and 6,582 crates from other states.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown last year, the mango market in the APMC market had suffered great losses. Moreover, climate change in the state had hit mangoes and other agricultural products. Even though climate change has affected the crops this year as well, the instances of mangoes in the market have witnessed an increase.
