Heavy unseasonal rains lashed Mumbai and its suburbs on Wednesday, December 1. Owing to this, the maximum temperature plunging by 9 degrees Celsius to its second-lowest for December in a decade.

Moreover, Mumbaikars got a respite from the November heat and continues to experience a chilled morning today, December 3. Rains in December are rare for the city.

However, the city on the first day of December recorded its second- highest 24-hour rainfall ever for the month.

Besides, moderate rains lashed most parts of the entire Konkan, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada on Wednesday as a low pressure belt formed between the south eastern Arabian Sea and the nearby Lakshadweep archipelago to the north coast.

Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted light to moderate showers for Mumbai today, December 3. In addition, thunderstorms at isolated places in Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg districts. Light to moderate in sparse places in Ahmednagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Aurangabad, Beed and Osmanabad districts. It is likely to rain in some parts of Vidarbha too.

As per the IMD’s Santacruz and Colaba laboratory, a minimum temperature of 23.8 degrees and 24.5 degrees was recorded. Whereas, the maximum temperature saw 33.3 degrees and 32.2 degrees on Tuesday, December 2.

In no time, Mumbaikars took to social media to share updates about the unseasonal rainfall and made #MumbaiRains trend on Twitter. While many welcomed the cool weather, others could not resist sharing memes about the suddenness of the weather change.
