Passengers on the Karjat-Kasara route are likely to get relief soon. The work of expansion of 27 railway stations has been undertaken to run 15-coach local trains between Karjat and Kasara stations. The Central Railway administration has set a target of completing these works by December 2025. Currently, 15 coach local trains run between CSMT and Dombivli and Kalyan.

Some local trains (Mumbai local) run with 12 coaches. These local trains run overcrowded. As the number of passengers is increasing day by day, there is a huge pressure on the local service. Therefore, there has been a demand for increasing the number of local trains on this route by 15 coaches for several days.

Currently, around 22 trips of 15-coach local trains run between CSMT and Kalyan. However, the short length of platforms at stations between Kalyan-Kasara and Kalyan-Khopoli is hampering the operation of 15-coach local trains. According to a senior Central Railway official, the expansion work of 34 stations in Mumbai Metropolitan Region is underway. Out of these, the expansion of 27 stations is expected to be completed by December-end.

According to information, out of the 27, the maximum number of stations are on the Kalyan-Karjat-Khopoli and Kalyan-Kasara routes. Initially, some of the currently operating 12-coach local trains will be converted to 15-coach trains and then the number will be increased in phases.
