The grand inauguration of the newly renovated Ram Ganesh Gadkari Rangayatan Theatre, a cultural landmark of Thane city, will take place on Independence Day, Friday, August 15, 2025, at 11:00 am. The event will be held in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and renowned theatre artist Suhas Joshi, who will be the chief guest.

Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde, MP Naresh Mhaske, MLA Dr. Jitendra Awhad, MLA Sanjay Kelkar, MLA Rajesh More, MLA Adv. Niranjan Davkhare will be present for this unforgettable ceremony. Also, on this occasion, a program called 'Foklok' by young artists based on folk music will be held.

Built in 1978, the Rangayatan was first extensively renovated in 1998. It has now been renovated after 26 years. The renovation work was started in October 2024. While starting this work and at different stages of the work, the Municipal Corporation also held detailed discussions and conducted a physical inspection with the artists, directors, and producers working on the theater. Accordingly, the entire look of Gadkari Rangayatan has been changed.

The renovation of the theatre has included comprehensive structural repairs to the building, installation of a new roof, completely new flooring inside the auditorium, stage renovation, new seating, new false ceiling, acoustic panels, complete interior painting, installation of a new fire safety system, new doors and windows, new carpeting and furniture, beautification of the front and rear facades, construction of a new security cabin, complete rewiring and electrification, installation of a new transformer and generator, provision of a lift for senior citizens, and upgrades to stage lighting and sound systems, along with a new air-conditioning system. All of this has been made possible through dedicated funding.


‘Nandi’ and ‘Flusion’ Performances to Mark the Inauguration

For the inauguration ceremony, Gadkari Rangayatan and the entire road in front of it will be beautifully decorated on both sides. As part of the main event, a ‘Nandi’ (musical invocation) will be performed by young artists Sampada Mane, Tanvi Gore, Sharanya Shenoy, Dhaval Bhagwat, Shrikar Kulkarni, and Pratik Phanse, accompanied by Mukund Marathe, a veteran classical vocalist. They will be musically supported by Kedar Bhagwat (organ) and Aditya Panwalkar (tabla).

Following this, a special performance titled ‘Flusion’, a fusion art presentation, will be delivered by renowned artists from Thane with national and international recognition. The lineup includes:

  • Pt. Vivek Sonar (Flute)

  • Pt. Mukundraj Dev (Tabla)

  • Mohan Pendse (Violin)

  • Kiran Wehele (Keyboard)

  • Abhishek Prabhu (Bass Guitar)

  • Sachin Nakhwa (Drums)

Free Passes Available for ‘Foklok’ Folk Music Event

After the inauguration of the newly renovated Rangayatan, art lovers in Thane will get to enjoy ‘Foklok’, a vibrant folk music performance by young artists, free of charge.

  • The first ten rows inside Rangayatan will be reserved for invited guests.

  • Distribution of free entry passes will begin on Thursday, August 14, at 12:00 noon at the Gadkari Rangayatan ticket counter.

  • Passes will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, and each person can collect a maximum of two passes.
