Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), one of the city's main train terminals, is gearing up to offer a unique dining experience. An old train carriage is being transformed into a restaurant on wheels that can accommodate forty diners.

The restaurant, currently under construction, is placed on newly laid tracks next to the LTT. According to reports, the conversion of the old coach into a restaurant-on-wheels is nearing completion. The plan is to inaugurate this facility on the auspicious day of Diwali.

This initiative isn't limited to LTT alone. A similar project is underway at Dadar station and is expected to be completed by January 2024. The main goal is to identify stations that are either popular tourist spots or witness high footfall. This is also being seen as a revenue-generating idea.

Several locations in the Mumbai, including Kalyan, Lonavala, Neral, Igatpuri, and Matheran, have been earmarked for this purpose.

The first such facility was launched at CSMT in 2021 and quickly gained popularity. However, that "restaurant-on-wheels" had to shut down as station renovations did not align with the restaurant's plans.

The decision was taken by Central Railway's (CR) Mumbai division in response to the CSMT reconstruction project proposal. The contract for that restaurant expired this month and was not renewed. Instead, they are likely to issue a new tender for opening a similar facility nearby.
