At last count, over 35000 Mumbaikars thronged the Byculla zoo on Saturday, Sunday and Monday for a glimpse of the Humboldt penguins. Being a weekend, Mumbaikars crowded the Byculla zoo. The penguin viewing has been kept free until 31 March.

On Friday evening, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray inaugurated the newly-built, exclusive enclosure for penguins at the Byculla zoo. From Saturday, Mumbaikars started queuing outside the Byculla zoo. From 1 April, Mumbaikars will have to pay Rs. 100 for adults and Rs. 50 for children for a dekko at the penguins.
