The Maharashtra state education department has asked schools across the state to celebrate Children’s week from November 8 to November 14.

In India, Children’s Day is celebrated as a tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru, fondly known as ‘Chacha Nehru’. Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, and had established the Children's Film Society India in 1955 to create indigenous cinema exclusively for kids and was known to have widespread affection for children. Before 1964, India celebrated Children's Day on November 20, the day United Nations observes it. However, after the death of Pandit Nehru in 1964, it was decided that his birthday be celebrated as Children's Day in his memory.

In view of the occasion, schools in Maharashtra have to conduct activities and upload photographs of the celebrations conducted online. During the week, several competitions such as essay writing, elocution and video making will be organised for students by the schools.

Moreover, as per reports, the teachers can upload photographs of their students using the hashtag #baldivas2020 on social media platforms. The state circular issued on Thursday by the state education department further states the same. In addition, a taluka level and district level committee will be formed to judge the student entries as part of the competition.
