The Maharashtra Health Department on Monday evening, April 12, reported 51,751 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, taking the total number of active cases to 5,64,746. Mumbai on the other hand added 6,893 new infections yesterday.

Currently, 32.75 lakh people are in-home quarantine and 29,399 people are in institutional quarantine. Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sealed more than 700 buildings as of April 5, 2021.

Following is the list of completely and partially sealed buildings in the BMC’s M/East (ME) ward comprising Govandi, Chembur and other nearby areas in Mumbai:

According to the BMC’s rule, if one or more COVID-19 patients are found in a building, then the entire floor is sealed. While if more than five patients are found infected, the building is sealed by the Municipal Corporation.

However, if the building is small, the Municipal Corporation has no problem in sealing the entire building. But when there are many buildings or wings in the complex, it becomes a problem for other residents.

To avoid any inconvenience to other residents, the Municipal Corporation has adopted a policy of sealing the floors or the entire wing of the building instead of completely sealing the building. Besides, the authority to seal the building has been given to local authorities.
