As per the report published in Hindustan Times, fire chief officer P Rahangdale said that faulty electrical wiring in old buildings is the common reason for fires.

Last two fire incidents which were reported in the city - one at cricketer Sachin Tendulkar’s house and at RK Studios – both were caused by a short-circuit. Though there were no casualties reported, properties were badly damaged. Fire brigade added that other than short-circuit, accidents, cylinder blast and arson are the reasons for fires.

The simplest way to prevent short circuit fires is timely audits of electric wiring. Mumbai has a lot of old buildings wherein electric wiring has undergone wear and tear. We have conducted several meetings with BEST to help the fire brigade spread awareness about this issue,” Rahangdale to HT.
