With just a few days left for Ganeshotsav, preparations by Ganeshotsav Mandals across Mumbai are in full swing. To streamline the process, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has begun granting pavilion permits through a computerised single-window system on its website: https://portal.mcgm.gov.in.
Recently, the Maharashtra government declared Ganeshotsav as the state festival, prompting the BMC to facilitate all necessary permissions online for public Ganesh Mandals. Thousands of these mandals erect pavilions on public or private land, and this new system allows them to submit applications easily under the 'For Citizens' section on the BMC portal.
Once the application is submitted online, Mandals no longer need to visit police stations or traffic offices for No Objection Certificates (NOCs), as the process is overseen by divisional and zonal municipal officers.
To promote an eco-friendly celebration, the BMC has distributed 907 tons of free Shadu clay and allocated temporary pavilion space to 979 sculptors. In addition, they’ve requested the Konkan Divisional Commissioner to ensure the supply of Shadu clay and support for idol makers there.

The BMC has also urged Mandals to construct pothole-free pavilions using effective techniques. If a pit is found, the cost of repairs and fines will be recovered from the respective Mandal.
Lastly, the civic body appeals to all Mandals to adopt eco-friendly materials for both idols and decorations, ensuring a sustainable and responsible celebration.
