Goregaon- BMC demolished 600 hutments which were coming in the way of nullah widening at Goregaon’s Azad Nagar. These slum dwellers have been shifted to Vashi and Chembur. But residents opposed the idea and took help of Congress Madhavi Rane. They demanded that they should get homes under SRA scheme.
For the last 40-50 years, 5,000 people reside in these hutments. When civic officials did the survey they got to know that 560 hutments were eligible and remaining 40 slums were declared illegal. Residents said that their jobs and schools are in Goregaon, Andheri and Jogeshwari and so they cannot relocate to Vashi.
