The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made online registration for pets compulsory. However, even though this rule has been in force for the past few years, not many have been aware of its mandate. Recently, a media professional took to Twitter to claim that the BMC website which registers pets has fallacies.
The website that registers pets at the BMC is faulty. Unable to pay the fee because the website doesn't support and authorities at the ward office are unable to help.

Based on accounts, a BMC directive states that it can seize pets if their owners do not have the requisite license. It has been reported that back in 2019, the civic body had proclaimed guidelines about pets in an attempt to curtail diseases caused by them.
In accordance with these guidelines, it is compulsory to give rabies and leptospirosis vaccines to pets. While the BMC commenced with a fee of INR 105 for a pet license, INR 100 was charged for yearly renewal. However, narratives claim that the renewal rate has now been increased to INR 700 this year.
Reports suggest that considering the large number of pets abandoned during the COVID-19 pandemic, the civic body decided to revise its guidelines for pet owners. The BMC opines that the yearly renewal license policy ensures that pets regularly attain their yearly vaccinations.
In section 191(A) of the BMC Act, it is compulsory for pet parents to attain a license for placing accountability if a pet dog is found to cause a nuisance in society or if it bites someone, accounts state.
