On Wednesday, the energy department briefed the Maharashtra cabinet about the measures it has undertaken to see to it that the power outage that was seen in Mumbai on October 2020 isn’t witnessed again, highlighted reports.

According to the suggestions of the technical committee that was established in order to understand the causes for the outage and recommend steps, on Wednesday the department gave an action taken report to the cabinet. Therein it was stated that there wasn’t any sabotage reported, highlighting that the outage was owing to cascade tripping, stated accounts.

Based on narratives, the department elaborated that the SOPs have been reviewed to manage outages efficiently. In light of this, insulator strings in more than 400 transmission lines have been changed. In addition to this, thermo scanning cameras have been put up to spot hotspots in the lines.

Reports quoted an official who elaborated on how a comprehensive presentation was given before the cabinet. Moreover, the department has undertaken measures to ameliorate the infrastructure to see to it that such events don’t transpire in the future, stated the official.

The report states that the government should use developed systems to spot mistakes in the network, highlighting that the present systems aren’t enough. They also recommended that measures be put up by the Centre to prevent attempts of cyberattacks.
