A day after announcing a lockdown in the hotspots area under the Thane municipal corporation (TMC), the civic body on Tuesday evening, March 9, executed a turnaround from its order and claimed that complete lockdown will not be imposed, only a few restrictions will be in place in these containment areas.

On Monday, March 8, the Thane municipal commissioner Vipin Sharma declared a lockdown from March 9 to March 31 in 16 hotspots in the city.

However, it led to panic and confusion among residents and traders who believed there will be a restriction on movement and other curbs. Some traders said they did not open their units after they learnt about a lockdown with immediate effect.

As a result, the TMC clarified that the notice was merely to make people aware of the containment zones in the city and ensure all COVID-related protocols are followed strictly.

The TMC has appealed to residents to not panic or believe in rumours, as they will continue to get all basic facilities and can step out for essentials as well.

Moreover, the civic body said will also release a list of micro containment zones based on the guidelines from the state.

The revised notification said there were three containment zones in Kalwa administrative wards, one each in Naupada and Wagle ward, whereas four buildings were identified as such zones in Majiwada-Manpada administrative wards.

The Vartak Nagar administrative ward has two containment zones while Lokmanya-Sawarker Nagar administrative ward and Uthalsar have three each.

The officials stated that the facilities opened up as per the state government’s Mission Begin Again will continue as before.
