Over a week after the Thane municipal commissioner, Dr Vipin Sharma alleged that testing would rise in the city, the number of tests undertaken daily continues to be the same, at under 2,000 across Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) limits, reports stated.

Civic officials had remarked the reluctance of those inoculated to get tested. The TMC plans to reach out in market areas and common places to test vendors as well as shopkeepers. In the tests conducted, nearly 700 are RT-PCR, 1,400-1,500 are rapid antigen test, highlighted accounts.

Back on December 9, the TMC had proclaimed that they would increase the number of antigen and RT-PCR tests. Amid the new coronavirus variant of Omicron, and its rising cases a meeting was reportedly conducted to see if strict testing would be done at bus depots. In spite of this, the number of daily tests remains to be under 2,000.

During the peak of the second wave in April, the city had undertaken over 10,000 tests every day, but with the number of daily cases witnessed a fall, the tests also became fewer. With the daily positivity rate being under 1.5 per cent, Thane continues to have the same number of figures.
