Thane: TMC takes action against 132 vehicles for causing air pollution

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has started taking action against those who violate the guidelines laid down by the High Court to maintain air quality. Accordingly, in the last few days, the municipality has taken action against 132 vehicles that were causing air pollution and collected a fine of INR 4.83 lakh. Punitive action has also been taken against the contractors of government projects.


After the Bombay High Court laid down guidelines for improving air quality, the BMC has formed Bharari teams to take action against those who neglect its implementation. Action is being taken through these teams for the past few days. Accordingly, a team has been deployed at Anandnagar, Modella check post at the city gate and this team has taken action against 132 vehicles carrying radars. A fine of INR 4.83 lakh has been recovered from them.

Metro, road repair, construction of new roads are going on at 83 different places in Thane municipality. 13 of them were inspected by the Bharari team of the municipality. In 9 of these places, it was found that the rules were not being followed. Therefore, the Municipal Corporation took punitive action against the concerned contractor and collected a fine of INR 45 thousand. Action was also taken against those who burn bonfires or garbage in open spaces by collecting a fine of INR 2.5 lakh.
