Government of Maharashtra, on September 30, 2020, extended the lockdown across the state until October 31, 2020. Officials have issued a new set of guidelines permitted some activities to resume under Unlock 5.0, however, several activities which have been permitted the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will NOT resume in the state, until further notice.

Below mentioned are the activities which will remain prohibited across Maharashtra:

1. Schools, colleges and educational institutions to remain closed until October 31, 2020. Online and distance learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged.

2. Cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres (including that in malls and market complexes), auditoriums, assembly halls, and similar places, shall remain closed.

3. International Air travel of passengers will not resume, except as permitted by MHA

4. Metro Rail services shall not function in the state.

5. Social, political, sports, entertainment, academic, cultural, religious functions, and other congregations will not be allowed in this phase of lockdown.

However, after a detailed meeting and thorough discussion, the state has permitted the bars, eateries, and restaurants to reopen from October 5, 2020, with 50 per cent capacity. Dabbawallas will also be permitted to travel by the Mumbai local trains. Besides this, the government has asked railway authorities to allow additional train services, which would help reduce the crowd, especially during the peak hours, in Mumbai and metropolitan regions (MMR).
