The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has been able to attain nearly 480 representative blood samples from various age as well as gender sections to date, highlighted a report by the Hindustan Times. This activity was being undertaken for the serosurvey that is being held in readiness for the probable third wave in its vicinity.

Based on the report, 1,400 samples have to be collected for many economic backgrounds, so far, data has been collected from wards comprising Vartak Nagar, Lokmanya Nagar-Savarkar Nagar, Kopri and Majiwada-Manpada. Areas that still need to be sought for the study by the TMC are Mumbra, Diva and Kalwa. The account quoted the TMC microbiology department’s senior officer who elaborated on how whilst people were visiting the public health centres to indulge in the survey quite often, they weren’t receiving the age group or the segment that is needed according to the represented data. They believe that owing to this nuance, the procedure is becoming more arduous for them than needed.

According to the narrative, heavily populated wards such as Mumbra and Lokmanya-Savarkar Nagar can throw light upon whether herd immunity has made its marks in the said vicinities through the means of this survey. Therefore, officers who are participating in the survey believe that it is important to have representative samples from these areas too.
