According to the latest reports, a joint forum of central trade unions has called for an India wide strike on Monday and Tuesday, March 28 and 29, to protest against the government policies affecting workers, farmers as well as general citizens. 

Based on accounts, the All India Bank Employees Association has claimed that the banking sector will also be joining the strike. 

It has been reported that the financial sector that entails the banking and insurance realm will also be joining the strike. Unions in other sectors, for instance, coal, steel, oil, telecom, income tax, postal, banks, copper, insurance, amongst others have also reportedly given strike notices. 

Similarly, unions of the railways and defence could make mass mobilization to support the strike at many spots across the country.  

Moreover, the State Bank of India also remarked that the banking sector may feel the ramifications of the strike. For those unversed, the strike has been called to oppose the government's decision to privatize public sector banks and the Banking Laws Amendment Bill 2021. 

The unions which are part of the forum include INTUC, AITUC, HMS, CITU, AIUTUC, TUCC, SEWA, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC. 

The Maharashtra government on the other hand on Sunday, March 27 invoked the MESMA Act since unions of power companies threatened to go on a two-day strike. The state power minister, Nitin Raut warned the employees from participating in the strike citing the board examinations, summer heat and agriculture.
